The Day After The Greatest News Imagionable.

It has been a brutal week of a longgggg wait. This election like this past year has been one huge challenge after another but we reached the finish line yesterday at 2:00 pm when I heard that Joe Biden and Kamala Harris won the election and are now the President and Vice President elect. It’s all thanks to God because I have done nothing but pray throughout the entire week begging for salvation and he provided. Many are in the midst of celebration but let’s not get too hasty folks. We still got two months left with this administration so let’s keep praying and hoping the best for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris and their upcoming administration. These next few months will fly by now because we now have an end date for this very rough time. In short, if you believe in prayer and the lord keep doing it as we get through the next phase of life. 2020 has been a brutal year but we’re now closer to the light of 2021 and I’m sure after all we’ve been through we can make 2021 the complete opposite of 2020. Keep the faith and stay active and positive. God bless.

Vote Vote Vote!

It’s that time again, folks! The time to use your God given right to speak up and make that important choice. Whether you vote now or November 3rd get out there and vote because so many have died for you to be able to do it. Also do it because if you’re sitting on your butt complaining about the way things are then this your chance to help change it. Everyone’s voices should be heard and opinion should count. See you on November 3rd!

Good thoughts on the anniversary of a tragic day.

The saying goes “Only the good die young” and we always wonder why does it seem that the nicest, purest of people who do so much good famous and not famous go so soon. I won’t try to give an answer because that’s impossible, only God knows why but I can make a theory that it’s probably because these people were chosen to serve as Angels that need to watch over the world now and God somehow usually picks the best and purest of heart to carry that type of giant responsibility. I know all of you aren’t religious which is fine, but, I hope that thinking about it like that will provide some good feelings for you and everyone who lost someone that day. We certainly suffered a great loss that day and of course this year but we also gained legions of Angels.

Sunday Musings

Bingethon 2020: Black romance movies.

It’s been a super challenging, emotional and unpredictable time so it’s always good to unwind with a good book, tv show or movie to help you escape and lately I have found a huge comfort in watching BET made for Tv movies that were adapted from the Arabesque novels in the late 90’s and early 2000’s. I have never even heard of any of these movies but have fallen in love watching them on the Reelblack Youtube channel. Some of my favorites are Fire and Ice starring Kadeem Hardison and Lark Voorhies, Commitments with Allen Payne and Victoria Dillard, Private Affairs with Vanessa Bell Calloway and Clifton Powell. I have quite a few more to go but I have to say these movies are such great comfort food for me and as a hopeless romantic they definitely inspire me. I hope you check them out and let them warm you in times of cold fear or inspire you in times of loss perspective. Happy Sunday, folks. Keep God in your heart and mind and joy in your soul.

Sunday Blessings

Happy Sunday to everyone. During this current era of panic, uncertainty and tension it’s extra important to celebrate the reminders of good in the world. Like the progress of where we are with Covid 19 versus where we were months ago and during all this tension with the police versus the people it was great to see an officer at QT take the time out of his day to help a brother get a jump for his car. Little things like that reminds me that there still are good people out there to balance the bad or evil ones and it also reminds me that there’s always hope for better. So I’m wishing everyone a wonderful holy day today and a hopefully holy week this week as we continue to progress psychologically, emotionally, physically, Intellectually and spiritually. Much love, and keep the peace.

Grateful for Progress

August is a fresh start so trust God and trust progress.

There’s been alot of chaos these past four months both personally and universally but don’t forget to be grateful for the progress we’ve seen since this whole mess started. We have come a long way despite what the sensationalists and greedy news or super negative no faith having people want you to believe. I know it’s hard but if you believe in our Lord and trust him then you have to try to keep that faith strong and remind yourself of where we are now. Now we have a medicine to help combat Corona when before we had nothing, now we have masks to wear out there which I know gives me a bit more security then when this started and it was wayyyy more dangerous going out into the world, now we have real fight for racial equality not seen since the sixties when before we didn’t when it came to Police brutality. Now we have successful vaccine trials that will hopefully be fully formed sooner than they’re saying when we had nothing before. Now we’ve had time to mourn and live life again after losing loved ones this year when before we were right in the middle of such tragic losses. What I’m saying is that God does not give us more than we can handle and I know that’s being constantly tested these days but I do believe he balances out the hardships with really positive good things like what I mentioned before and the fact that in many ways we’ve come together as a world more now than we did since 2016. So keep the faith and don’t let all the crazy stuff you hear get you down because God’s got this.

Memories of Roc

A 90’s gem that still resonates

I remember back in middle school my father sat me and my brother down one night and introduced us to a show that would have a huge impact on my life. It was called Roc. The premise was about a proud and humble garbage man Roc Emerson who had an adoring beautiful nurse wife Eleanor, his elderly opinionated father who lives with him and his ne’er do well, gambling, saxophone playing hustler brother Joey. The show dealt with heavy topics like drugs, gang violence, miscarriages, gay weddings, Aids, impotence, racism, tokenism, infidelity, sexual harassment, ageism and the 1992 presidential election all while making you laugh and care about the characters that became like another family to me and i’m sure many others as well. Unfortunately the show only went three seasons from 1991 to 1994 and some say it was because of poor ratings(though it was doing very well in black households) while others say that it was cancelled because the show dealt with such hard hitting issues at a time where tv shows weren’t doing it anymore. Regardless of the reason it was cancelled Roc left a great legacy of laughter, family values and black excellence and pride. The character of Roc Emerson was in many ways a pre Barack Obama and had the power to move you with various speeches on the show. So if you’ve somehow never seen this wonderful show I recommend you check out the video I placed above and enjoy!

Find your happy place

I will freely admit that i’m somewhat of a cynical person but I also happen to be a optimistic and hopeful person. I can be both. The world is on fire right now with the pandemic and all the racial tension, the fractured relationship between the police and the people, all the mess on the news etc. Look, it’s just not good to dwell in all the negative stuff. You won’t be living much longer if you do so what I do when things get too heavy and too dark other than praying to God and writing nothing gets my mind off of this stuff than watching classic tv shows and movies, especially comedies. METV, Antenna Tv, Get Tv, Hallmark Mysteries and Movies, Tv Land, AMC, TCM etc. have been my friends these last several months as well as the youtube channel Film Rise which provides full episodes of classic eighties shows i’ve been enjoying. So I write this to tell you to find what makes you happy, your happy place whether it be painting, yoga, cooking, baking, basketball, football, running, reading, working out, eating, gardening, video games, movies and tv etc.Just get out of that negative head space. Remember, people: Things won’t get better if we don’t take care of ourselves first.

Three Dates Script

An experimental film script I wrote in college. I haven’t read in a little while but i remember how much fun I had playing with the mockumentary format. Have fun reading it as much as I had writing it.

And yes it’s copywritten with the WGA lol
